Volume knop audiophile 9006

Discussie in 'Electronica' gestart door Sumilidon, 29 sep 2020.

  1. Alright for this write up we will be fixing the Volume for our Audiophile 9006.
    So lets begin,
    Tools Needed:
Stereo Ford Removal Tool (or some long thin sticks of metal, I used Allen wrenches)
    Small Pliers
    Small Flat head Screwdriver
Small Set Of Torx(really small, smaller than a T10)

NOTE: YOU MAY NOT HAVE TO PULL THE WHOLE STEREO OUT. YOU CAN SIMPLY PULL THE KNOB OUT WITH FORCE AND CLEAN THE VOLUME KNOB BY SPRAYING IT WITH ELECTRICAL CLEANER AND TURNING THE KNOB. Make sure you disconnect the battery while doing this. This however may result in breaking the knob, or causing more damage to the stereo due the spray spraying everywhere. I have pulled out the knob 3 times by force and have not broken it, simply just pull it out by force. Also, the electrical cleaner shouldn’t damage any electrical components just be careful you don’t get it everywhere. Last thing you want is the cleaner to stain the plastic on your dash. I am stating the precautions so you don’t blame me for messing up your car. If you wanna do it the “right way” then keep reading below. It is a long process, im just letting you know it can be cleaned without taking the stereo off.
FYI, if you cleaned the potentiometer by just yanking the knob, and it didn’t fix the issue. Then you might have bad solder joints on the potentiometer.

First lets disconnect the battery so we don’t cause any electrical issues while we disconnect our stereo. Once you disconnect the batter lets start taking out the stereo. I used 4 small Allen wrenches to take it out. There are 4 tiny holes in the stereo, insert your tools there. This is a lot easier with the actual tools, I did struggle doing it with the Allen wrenches but im too cheap to buy a tool I will most likely use once only….knock on wood[smackbum]. You want to push outwards on the tools, like you’re opening a book and pull the stereo out at the same time.

Here is a picture showing you what you are really doing inside the dash. You wanna push outwards on the tools in order to make that bracket push and unclip that green circle stop. Whilst you are pushing outwards pull as well to take the stereo out.

Here is a link to explain if you are still confused:

Moving on, once you’ve successfully pulled the stereo out. We need to disconnect the antenna and 3 harness on the back of the radio. Lets go ahead and push the small clip(green arrow in the pic) and pull the harness out by the black plastic harness. DO NOT PULL ON THE WIRES[nono]. Do this for all three harness.

Once you’ve fully disconnected the stereo, lets set your stereo on a work bench.[thumb]

We will need to take the faceplate off. So these screws allow us to take the faceplate off.

I didn’t have a small enough torx screwdriver to properly take it off. So I used a small Philips. I do not know the size of the torx screw either.

Once you’ve got the faceplate off, we can keep going and disassembling the stereo.

Turn the faceplate over, and we see the back of the board. Take off all the screws that are circled.

I just used some pliers to take the scews off as I didn’t know the size of the torx screw.

Once you have all the screws off, we can take off the circuit board. Make sure you have the plastic facing down so all the buttons do not pop out, and there are two small tabs you gotta push on to free the circuit board.

Once free here is our circuit board! As you can see the volume knob still has the knob attached to it.
    Pic4 [IMG]

If we flip it over and examine right behind the volume knob, make sure there are no solder joints that are broken or that have “rings” formed around it. If you see a ring formed around the joint, this means that it is an intermittent connection and you will have to re-solder this. My solder joints looked fine, so this suspected me to believe I had a faulty potentiometer.

If you remove the volume knob, you can see the potentiometer. This is the culprit on our volume issues. We will spray her down with electrical cleaner.
    Pic5
    [IMG]
Use this CRC Electrical cleaner to clean the potentiometer. Spray it on it and twist the knob back and forth and back and forth and more spray. Once you cleaned it enough, let her dry.

Start putting your stereo back together(reverse of removal) don’t forget the 3 screws .
and make sure these little hooks here are just like in the picture. Check both sides of the stereo. Make sure they are not resting on top of the silver metal, rather have them resting behind it.

Now once the stereo is all back together, lets go ahead and install on the car. Every harness can only go in one way, lets plug them back in, and DO NOT forget your antenna LOL the last thing you wanna do is take this apart again just to plug in the antenna.

Now then, lets insert the stereo in smoothly.

And your finished job should look like this!
